The wheat-paste image was photographed a few years ago from the same vantage point as the background, photographed in the summer of 2020. The tree line of Ponderosa Pine seen a few hundred yards away is the fire line of the Winter Fire that burned much of this ridge in 2002. Change happens at different visual time scales here, and humans have witnessed these changes for the past 14,000 years in this part of what is now called Oregon. The clear sky once had clouds, the sun-scorched ground was once a forest, the ridge was once a shoreline on an inland sea.
